New Pro Version Release!

A new app version is out, and a desktop release is in the works

Not that long ago, we were super excited to release our very first mobile app on the Google Play Store. For those who maybe haven't seen it, check out our previous post regarding it's release!

That version, for one, is free. Who doesn't like free stuff?! It acts as a nice companion app for makers and internet of things enthusiasts already using an awesome web dashboard service called Initial State. If you haven't checked them out, maybe you should! Their service is really cool, but we wanted a way to check a couple sensor readings super fast without having to always log in and what not...a mobile app solves that!

Whereas the free version offers only four data feeds between two rooms, the Pro alternative provides two additional sensor feeds (both of which can be named whatever you like with a convenient header label), and two toggle-switch controls for turning on and off whichever devices you may have connected to your dashboard.

One thing that you will notice right when you open the app is the modern and elegant Material-themed user interface and components.

A much more pleasant user experience if you ask us! There still remained one factor that continued to perturb us: Whenever we found ourselves installing some new app: One of the first things you do for quick access is look for any widgets for your app to add to your home screen, but rarely do they have one!

We decided that for both our needs and other users alike, widgets were a MUST for the new Pro version...and that's exactly what we did! Don't feel like opening the app to check the living room and bedroom temps? Put the widgets on your home screen!

Since our app is currently only released on the Google Play Store...it's not very helpful if someone would like to run it on, say, a Raspberry Pi. And while many of us rely on just using the browser to display certain dashboards, it doesn't have to be that way! To that end, we've been messing with a 'fork' of our Pro version app that will be able to be run on a desktop PC, or better yet, a Pi with a touchscreen. It is still very early in development, but at some point we'll probably upload binaries of the program for download on a GitHub repo...so stay tuned!
